ECM Libra Group is an operator-investor platform with active positions across hospitality and education in Asia.
In hospitality, the Group owns and operates the Ormond Group, with a portfolio of more than 2,500 keys across the region. Flagship assets include the award-winning The Chow Kit and Tune Hotel KLIA2, which has been recognised as Asia’s best airport hotel. Alongside owned hotels, the Group is building an asset-light third-party management business and currently manages the luxury five-star The RuMa Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on behalf of its owners. Growth will come through a combination of selectively expanding the owned portfolio in affordable luxury and lifestyle hotels and scaling management partnerships, including entry into new segments such as beach and ski resorts for the aspirational traveller.
Within the education platform, ECM Libra Group owns and operates Epsom College in Malaysia (Asia’s leading boarding school) and holds the Asia-wide licence for the Epsom College brand. Opening Epsom College Tokyo and building a network of schools across Asia across premium, mid-market and affordable segments. Linked initiatives include an enrichment business with sporting academies in partnership with Mouratoglou Tennis Academy, Golfzon Leadbetter Academy and LaLiga, and a B2B expedition business leveraging hotel assets in Borneo and Hakuba.
Investments are opportunistic across hospitality, education and adjacent ventures. This is not a passive investing role. You will review opportunities, support transaction structuring and negotiations, and then take ownership of projects that make the business successful. The role blends financial analysis with hands-on delivery, including partnership development, commercial problem-solving, and revenue generation.
Role Summary
Location: Kuala Lumpur.
Travel: frequent.
Reporting: Head of Investments and CEO.
Start: within the next 2 months.
Compensation: from RM7,000/month + performance-linked bonus, plus standard medical and allowances.
Language: fluent written and spoken English required; additional languages a plus.
This role sits at the centre of how ECM Libra Group grows. You will evaluate new opportunities, build the analysis behind commercial decisions, and support transaction structuring and negotiations. You will also be given projects to own and drive, regardless of prior background, with clear responsibility for outcomes. Expect to move between analysis, stakeholder management and on-site execution, with frequent travel.
Responsibilities
1) Opportunity evaluation and transaction support
- Review opportunities across hospitality, education and adjacent ventures, including market context, business model, unit economics and key risks.
- Analyse financial statements, management accounts and operating data to understand profitability, cash generation and performance drivers.
- Build financial models with clear assumptions, scenarios and sensitivities to support decisions and negotiations.
- Coordinate due diligence inputs (commercial, financial, legal, operational) and consolidate findings into clear implications.
- Draft decision-ready recommendation notes and presentation materials for senior leadership.
- Support transaction structuring and negotiations by analysing terms, incentives, downside protections and practical deliverability.
2) Portfolio performance and operations
- Identify performance gaps versus plan and diagnose root causes using data and on-the-ground inputs.
- Design practical actions that improve results across pricing, distribution, cost control, product and service improvements, staffing and processes.
- Work directly with operators to implement actions and track impact; including on-site execution
- Support post-transaction and launch execution, including defining initial priorities, targets and owners.
3) Business development and partnerships
- Build proposals and commercial packs for third-party management and education collaborations.
- Support negotiations with analysis of commercial structures, fee terms, performance incentives and service scope.
- Analyse sales and marketing performance (channel mix, pricing, conversion, customer segments), propose actions, and work with teams to execute improvements.
4) Strategy and new ventures
- Support feasibility and business planning for new concepts, including pricing, volumes, costs and staffing assumptions.
- Support launch planning with clear timelines, owners, risks and decision points, then help execute what is needed to get to opening and early traction.
- Coordinate workstreams across teams so initiatives move from plan to delivery.
Candidate profile
- 2+ years relevant experience. Backgrounds may include audit and assurance, corporate finance, consulting, corporate development, analytics, or operating roles with strong financial exposure.
- Demonstrable ability to evaluate financial statements and translate analysis into clear recommendations.
- Strong numeracy and a disciplined approach to assumptions and data quality.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
- Ability to build reliable financial models with scenarios and sensitivities, backed by strong attention to detail.
- Strong writing and presentation skills, with the ability to be concise and specific.
- Practical use of AI tools to improve efficiency (analysis, drafting, research synthesis), with sound judgement and confidentiality awareness.
- Proactive, takes ownership, and follows through without being asked.
- Focused on delivering results, not just producing analysis or reports.
- Comfortable with ambiguity, changing priorities, and taking ownership for getting work done.
- Willingness to travel frequently and execute on-site with operating teams.
- Fluent written and spoken English. Right to work in Malaysia required.
- Degree and/or professional qualification (e.g., ICAEW. Demonstrable experience and judgement matter most.
