Caroline, our Chief Legal Officer, has had a 35 year career that politely declined to stay in one lane. She made partner at a leading Kuala Lumpur firm, headed Legal for an international oil and gas group, left the law entirely to run a luxury fashion house, opened cafés, and returned as General Counsel of AirAsia X in time to see it through Malaysia’s largest-ever debt restructuring. The detours were not accidental: she believes the law is most useful in the hands of someone who has actually run a business, and she prefers her legal advice practical, commercial and preferably brief. Nor has she ever accepted that good law should come at the expense of style. Away from the office, she is happiest in the snow, is never far from music or the theatre, and was curious enough to take a Masters in neuroscience mid-restructuring. She also maintains that most problems can be solved with a single malt.
